The Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture said that no agreement has been reached to re-test Chinese fertilizer through a third party.

He added that even if the Chinese company reconsiders, the rejected fertilizer will not be accepted as per the plant isolation regulations.

The presence of hazardous bacteria in the fertilizer sent to Sri Lanka from China was confirmed by two experiments.

Following this, the import of compost was stopped and the ship was sent back to China. However, the ship did not return to China and returned to Sri Lankan waters.

China, which continues to oppose Sri Lanka’s allegations, has demanded that the fertilizer be re-tested by a third party.

In this context, the Sri Lankan government has responded that no agreement has been reached to re-test Chinese fertilizer through a third party.
