But how does Vande Loo deal with people who really have dementia? “I will never ask whether the person has dementia, because I don’t want to put a label like that on someone just like that. I think it’s very hard for someone to hear that they have dementia. I try to deal with it differently, by not using the word “dementia” but reassuring the customer. “You are absent-minded and I am sometimes too, we really need to write more”, I say. I really want to reassure them and make them feel good,” says Monique. “Sometimes I advise clients to first go home to see what they need now and be sure to write that down. With such aids we can partly solve the forgetfulness.”
