101 archaeological and historical sites in the Saudi National Heritage Register Inscriptions and Archeology Newly added to the National Heritage Register

Yambu: In Saudi Arabia, 101 more archaeological sites have been included in the National Heritage Register. The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) authority informed that among the newly included monuments, there are 81 centers from the Hail region, nine centers from the Tabuk region, six centers from the Medina region, three centers from the Al-Qasim region, and one center from the Asir and Al-Jouf regions. The Saudi Press Agency also reported that the total number of historical heritage centers registered in the country in the ‘National Antiquities Registry’ has reached 8,528.

The National Register of SCTH was launched to protect heritage sites and archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia. SCTH Authority is implementing comprehensive plans by preparing scientific systems for archaeological research and historical studies. Many local and international volunteer groups are working for this in different areas of Saudi Arabia.

The authorities also pointed out that the newly registered monuments include structures that are proof of Saudi history and reveal different architectural charms, prehistoric remains and stone inscriptions.

The Heritage Commission has sought the cooperation of the citizens and visitors of the country to identify, record and preserve the archaeological and historical sites and centers of the country. The authority has called for reporting of important archaeological sites noticed and explored through the platform ‘Balag’.
