A green letter arrived at the town hall of Stains on September 29. The receiver : “Islamic town hall of Stains”. The content: a press release from the mayor denouncing racist hatred on social networks crossed out “Long live free France”, “Long live Zemmour” et “Great replacement: yes, the proof in Stains”. For three weeks, the municipality of Seine-Saint-Denis has been targeted by the far right, particularly in the media and on social networks.

This movement of racist hatred ended on Saturday, October 8, with the irruption, in the courtyard of the town hall, of activists from the small group Action Française. For fifteen minutes, a dozen individuals, their faces uncovered and equipped with megaphones, firecrackers and smoke bombs chanted “France is ours” or “You are dirtying France”.

A receptionist asking them to leave the premises was answered “It’s you we’re going to get out of here”before an activist tries to set fire to a garbage can by placing a smoke bomb in it. “We are here at home and if you want to live like in your countries of origin, go back there”claimed the small group in a video relaying their action of the weekend on Twitter, on October 10, and attacking “an enemy of Islam [leurs] traditions ».

The mayor of Stains, Azzedine Taïbi (ex-PCF), reacted the same day by alerting to the situation in a press release and in a letter addressed to the prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis. “There is a form of fascism taking hold in our society, trivialized by certain media and the political classthe elected official is alarmed. We are abandoned and these small groups act with impunity. » In a new letter sent on October 11 to the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, Azzedine Taïbi asked for the dissolution of Action Française.

The municipal team denounces “an anxiety-provoking and nauseating climate” already palpable, according to her, in 2020, whena fresco in tribute to George Floyd and Adama Traoréwhich denounced police violence, was vandalized.

The recent events follow a controversy launched by the far right against ephemeral street signs in the city. For a project called “Place aux femmes! “, supported by the town hall, the regional directorate of cultural affairs of Ile-de-France, the social landlord CDC Habitat and the Maison des Quartiers Maroc et Avenir, a group of women proposed names of “inspiring women” to rename a few streets for a fortnight. In the proposed names: Khadija Bint Khuwaylid, first wife of the Prophet Muhammad.
