Humiliating: The Brazilian beauty queen’s joy at being crowned the winner of the competition was short-lived after the host realized that she had actually lost – and took away the winner’s coronation ribbon that was placed on her.
An awkward moment occurred earlier this month during the “Miss Goyas” ceremony held in Brazil. When the film that was intended for the winner, was placed on the shoulder of the 23-year-old model Ana Diniz. Photographs from the event, which the model shared on her Instagram page, showed the moment when she cried for joy as soon as it was announced that she was the winner of the competition, just before the moderator took the ribbon off her and crowned another contestant.
“The shame I went through yesterday,” Diniz wrote under the video. “I am angry at the lack of organization of the event. This moment is extremely important for those who have dedicated themselves so much to the cause.” According to her, the person in charge of the ceremony announced her name before he realized that he had mistaken the name of the winner and removed the ribbon from her. “It’s gross irresponsibility.”
The 23-year-old said she accepted the host’s apology, and was officially announced as the third-place winner of the beauty queen competition. While the loser asked her followers not to attack the girl who won the title, she found humor in her experience, saying: “I understand you, Miss Colombia!”.
Diniz’s joke referred to the moment when comedian and host Steve Harvey crowned Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arbelo as the winner of the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, before going back and announcing Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the actual winner of the pageant.
