Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Tourism has issued new rules regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages. Tourism authorities have issued guidelines to be followed by distribution companies and managers of retail outlets.

The new guidelines issued by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Department have stated the ingredients to be included in alcoholic beverages and their sale. The action is part of ensuring the safety of users and suppliers.

Minimum alcohol content should be 0.5 percent. Wine should not taste or smell like vinegar. The law also stipulates that no artificial sweeteners or colors other than caramel can be added to beer. These should be prepared in a clean environment. Beverages should be packaged in non-contaminating or tamper-evident packaging.

The beverage’s ingredients, where produced, manufacturer, expiration date, alcohol content, etc., must be listed on the beverage label. The authorities have also issued guidelines regarding the type of alcohol used, packaging, transport, storage etc. The authorities have given a grace period of six months to comply with the guidelines. The authorities also warned that action will be taken against those who violate the law.
