Chennai: Lakhs of people come and go to Chennai Central Railway Station.
As there are metro, electric railway stations and bus stations, various schemes are being implemented along with basic amenities for the passengers.
Opposite the Chennai Central Railway Station, the tunnel to the Poontamalli Expressway is useful for commuters.
Similarly, a tunnel with escalators is being constructed to facilitate access from the rear entrance of Government General Hospital to Evening Bazaar Road; The work has reached its final stage.
Officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation said:
The work of constructing a tunnel with a width of ௯ meter was being done at a cost of 8 crore rupees so that the public and train passengers could not cross the road and go safely.
Facilities including one escalator each have been provided in the entrance areas. The works for this are nearing completion. In a month’s time, this tunnel will be opened for public use.
