6G Samsung has opened a new lab in the UK for technology research and development. The research laboratory is set up in the UK as part of the company’s global 6G development project. The new venture has started at the Samsung Research and Development Institute in Staines-upon-Thames, UK.

The lab’s work will focus on areas such as communication networks, data intelligence and on-device artificial intelligence. Along with this, the company’s ongoing activities in the fields of visual development, security, IoT and telecom will also be held here.

6G will bring next-level ultimate experiences to humans through hyper-connectivity. That concept is the basis of our 6G vision.’ said Sebastian Seung, head and president of Samsung Research.

With 6G, we aim to bring the ‘next hyper level connected’ experience to everyone. 6G will feature ultra-wide band, ultra-low latency, ultra-intelligence and ultra-spatialization. 6G will enable things like extended reality and high-fidelity mobile holograms. Sanghyun Choi, head of the Advanced Communications Research Center at Samsung Research, said. He says the first standards for 6G could be out by 2028.

According to a white paper published by Samsung Electronics in 2020, it will be possible to install the first 6G network by 2028. The company also says that 6G service may start on a commercial basis around 2030.
