NASA has launched the DART project, which stands for “Double Asteroid Redirection Test”. The target? Testing the ability of a spacecraft to collide and deflect the course of an asteroid
Who among us has never read a book or seen a movie in which a giant asteroid hits the Earth, putting an end to humanity? Scenarios of this type are unlikely, but it cannot be completely excluded that one day a smaller asteroid will hit the planet, with perhaps not catastrophic but still destructive consequences. To prevent this from happening, NASA has launched the DART project, which stands for “Double Asteroid Redirection Test”. The target? Testing the ability of a spacecraft to collide and deflect the course of an asteroid.
Speakers: Davide Perna, asteroid expert at the National Institute of Astrophysics
Moderator: Edwige Pezzulli, astrophysics
