Selling an iPhone without a charger: the judge imposed a fine of Rs. 150 crore!

Smartphones will be driven by competition and price cuts. For that they will reduce the expenses in various matters. One of them is selling just the handset without the charger. A Brazilian court has imposed a fine of Rs 150 crore on Apple for selling iPhones without chargers.

Apple’s iPhone is popular all over the world. The company has stopped shipping chargers with iPhones since 2020. Apple says it made the decision for environmental reasons. Those who buy a new Apple phone have to pay a few hundred and buy the charger separately. Many people buy and use it separately.
In this case, a case was filed against this action of Apple in the Sao Paulo Provincial Court of Brazil. Already in 2021, Apple paid a fine of Rs 1.5 crore for selling an iPhone without a charger in that country. Now it’s selling iPhones as is. The judge who heard the case said that the charger does not save copper, zinc and tin to protect the environment.

A harsh judge on hearing this answer said there are other ways to make electronic devices eco-friendly. A USB Type-C port can be provided. Leaving it alone and selling phones without chargers is an insult to the customer. A 2nd product must be purchased for the purchased item to work. Customers who have sold an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 within the last two years must provide chargers. He said if he plans to continue doing business in Brazil, he should include a charger with the iPhone.
