A player for the Spanish giant Real Madrid and the French national team, who is considered one of the best strikers in the world, Karim Benzema, won the “Golden Ball” trophy and the title of the best player in the world for the first time in his long career.

The win went to Benzema according to most opinions and voters, by a huge margin from the second place, which Sadio Mane from Liverpool took. Benzema won most of the votes, apparently due to the fact that he scored the most goals, both in the Spanish league and in the Champions League, last season.

After his win, the striker spoke at the ceremony and said: “I thank my friends at Real Madrid and the French national team, my wonderful president, who is like family. I also thank the academy in Lyon and president Jean-Michel Auls who helped me realize my dream of playing in Madrid.”

“This is a victory for the people.” Benzema concluded his words. Benzema is the oldest player to win the title since 1956, when he is approaching 35.
