Naipido: U.S. sentenced to 11 years in prison for criticizing Myanmar military regime Journalist Danny Fenster has been released. He was released three days after his sentence was announced.
U.S. at the United Nations. Former Ambassador Bill Richardson made the announcement. He said Fenster was released from prison and was on his way to the U.S. via Qatar.
Richardson said the release was based on a direct meeting with army chiefs.
Fenster, 37, worked for Frontier Myanmar, an online media outlet. Fenster was sentenced to 11 years in prison for violating immigration laws, gathering illegally and spreading anti-military rhetoric. Fenster was arrested last May while trying to leave the country. The government has arrested a number of Democrats and journalists in the wake of the February military coup.
