What’s on tonight: The creator who breaks Netflix for the umpteenth time

by time news

Step by step, series by series, Ryan Murphy moves away from Glee fame on his way to becoming the most stressful man in America. Some will say that Gali was also a stressful series, but let’s face it – ever since “American Horror” Murphy really wants to make you scared, stressed, lock the doors or just scream. Only less than a month ago he did it with “Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer”, and already he has emerged with a new series that will haunt your nightmares.

“The Spectator” tells about a small family that moves to the suburbs of New Jersey in the house of their dreams, for which they had to pay much more than they could afford. As anyone who has ever watched a horror movie knows, it quickly goes wrong when they start receiving a series of stressful, threatening letters full of personal details about their lives and home, and for some reason – containing the phrase “young blood” way too many times. Now we just have to figure out which of their strange neighbors is sending the letters that are signed only with the name “The Spectator”. Oh, and of course the series is based on real events, because why not.

Murphy’s supreme aesthetic style is indeed present in the series, but the color is more faded and the focus shifts to creepy night shots and stressed looks from the cast. In any other series it might not have had screen time, but the fantastic cast cast in the series makes everything much more powerful – the main couple is played by the great Bobby Knavely (“Empire of Crime”) and Naomi Watts (who knows a thing or two about creeps as a graduate of “The Ring”) , and among their neighbors you can find the funny and strange Richard Kind as always, the character actress Margo Martindale, Mia Farrow and also Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus” and Stifler’s mother from “American Pie”). Murphy’s formula does not change, but it seems that this time the ingredients are of much higher quality.

The seven episodes of “The Spectator” are now available on Netflix
