Manchester United: Accused of attempted rape, Mason Greenwood was released on bail

by time news

On Monday, the English international had seen his request for release denied. This Wednesday, Mason Greenwood, accused of “attempted rape” and “wilful assault”, obtained a bail request from a Manchester court.

The 21-year-old player, a cape with the England selection, who is also accused of “behaviour of control and coercion” on the same victim, had been returned to pre-trial detention earlier this week.

The court’s spokesperson explained that a new request had been accepted on the condition of not contacting any witnesses in the case or the complainant, and of residing at a specific address.

Wednesday’s hearing was held without the player who will appear before a judge again on November 21.

Greenwood had been arrested for the first time in late January after photos and videos were posted on social media showing a young woman with a bloody face, bruises on her body and the words “to anyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood really does to me”.

He was released in early February, under judicial supervision. But he was again arrested by the police on Saturday morning for a violation of his judicial control and charged in the afternoon. The attempted rape was allegedly committed in October 2021 and the assault two months later.

The accusation of “controlling and coercive behavior” relates to actions between November 2018 and October of this year, during which the player would have published threatening and insulting messages towards the complainant. He also reportedly spied on and hacked into his social media accounts.
