Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela cut her hair in support of protests in Iran and Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand. Protests erupted in Iran after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Mahsa Amini was arrested in Tehran on September 13 for allegedly not following Iran’s dress code. Protests against the Iranian regime are rising all over the world. Women can participate in the protest by cutting their hair.

19-year-old Ankita Bhandari was killed in Uttarakhand, India. Ankita, a receptionist, was killed by former BJP leader’s son Pulkit Arya and two accomplices. The killing has sparked nationwide protests. Now Urvashi has come out in support of the protestors demanding justice for Mahsa and Ankita.

“My hair is cut. This is for Mahsa Amini and the Iranian women and girls protesting in the streets for her. The Iranian morality police are responsible for this. I am also dedicating this to 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari from Uttarakhand. Women around the world are joining in cutting their hair in protest against the Iranian government. This is a global symbol of women’s revolution!,” Urvashi wrote while sharing a picture of her cutting her hair on Instagram.

“Hair is a symbol of women’s beauty. By cutting their hair, women make a declaration that they are not affected by society’s notions of beauty in any way. How women should live, what they should wear and how they should behave should not be decided by others. “There is no doubt that feminism will take a big turn if women come together and stand up for women’s issues,” she added.

Oscar winners like Marion Cotillard, Juliette Binoche and others have declared solidarity with the protests in Iran. In Iran, women are protesting against the morality police by cutting their hair and burning their hijabs. Many have shared videos of these protests on social media. Some women also appear dressed as men.

Amini, who was otherwise healthy, arrived at the hospital in a coma a few hours after her arrest, citing Amini’s family, Persian-language media outlets including the Iran Wire website and Sharjah newspaper reported. It is not yet clear what happened between reaching the police station and going to the hospital. 1500 Tawsir, which monitors violations of the law in Iran, reported that Amini was hit in the head.
