Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton and Teachers’ Union Secretary General Yaffe Ben David signed a wage agreement between the state and the Teachers’ Union tonight (Thursday).

The salary of the teaching staff will be increased in two installments: the first, will be given in January 2023 and will also include a retroactive refund since September 2022. The second installment, will be given in September 2023.

For example, a teaching employee in his first year will earn NIS 8,207 in the first phase and after the second phase, in September 2023, his salary will be NIS 9,000.

In addition, in the months of November and December 2022, advances of NIS 1,000 per month will be given to each teacher (NIS 500 for teachers who are not under the New Horizon reform).

The increased payment for the various job rewards will be given in different pulses depending on the reward and how its cost is determined.

As part of the negotiations, it was also agreed on the adjustment of the vacation schedule: the educational institutions will work on the holidays of Hagg, Lag Ba’Omer, and the Fast of Esther. The vacation days will be transferred to the bridge between Yom Kippur and Sukkot, and teachers will be given two vacation days to choose from. The changes to the vacation schedule will begin in the 2018 school year.

In addition, the parties anchored the agreement on the following issues:

  • The salary increase for a teaching employee starts at NIS 9,000
  • The salary increase for the manager starts at NIS 19,000
  • Additions of at least NIS 1,100 per teaching staff
  • Persistence grant of NIS 10,000 after three years in the system

Salary improvement for filling additional positions:

  • Education compensation: starting at NIS 1,000 or a percentage compensation (the higher of the two)
  • Remuneration for layer concentration and second deputy manager or junior division manager: starting at NIS 1,100 or a percentage remuneration (the higher of the two
  • Increasing the consulting fee: from 12% to 18%
  • Adding compensation to kindergarten teachers and administrators who include students with special needs in their class
  • Increasing the minimum job rate up to 80% gradually, teachers will be given two days of vacation to choose from
