New Delhi: A new storm has formed in the Bay of Bengal. As the atmospheric circulation has strengthened as a low pressure area, Tamil Nadu is likely to receive heavy rain with thunder for 4 days. Following this, coastal districts have been advised to be alert.

Atmospheric circulation formed over the South Andaman region. This zonal circulation is strengthened as a low pressure area. It extends to a distance of 7.6 km above sea level. This low pressure area is formed in southeast and east central region of Bay of Bengal and moves towards north and northwest direction. It will strengthen into a deep depression tomorrow (Saturday). It is located in the Central Bay of Bengal and Southeast Bay of Bengal region.

This deep depression is likely to strengthen further and intensify into a storm over central West Bay of Bengal on 23rd. The storm will be given the name ‘Sitrung’ suggested by Thailand. The storm will hit the northern Andhra Pradesh coast first.

Odisha government has canceled the leave of its employees from 23rd to 25th due to the storm forecast. Precautionary measures have been taken in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as the track of this storm will be towards Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast. The Odisha government has alerted the administrations of 7 coastal districts.

Due to the storm, it is feared that the storm may hit Kanjamburi, Gurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhatrak and Balasore districts in Odisha. So the authorities there have been asked to be very alert and monitor the situation closely. Heavy rain is likely to occur in Puri, Kendrapada and Jagant Singhpur districts on 23rd, the Meteorological Department said. Today (21st), light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at many places in Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal and Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai, Dindigul, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, The Chennai Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain in Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tirupur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, districts and Karaikal.
