16% of Pakistan’s population faces food insecurity crisis: Pakistan Food and Agriculture Organization Information

Islamabad: 95 lakh acres of agricultural lands have been submerged in flood water across Pakistan. 45 lakh acres of crops have been damaged. As a result, 15 to 16% of Pakistan’s population is facing a food insecurity crisis, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of Pakistan.

Due to continuous heavy rains in Pakistan since last June, flood water is flowing in various cities. As a result, farmlands, houses and buildings were flooded. Lakhs of people are housed in camps.

More than 1,000 people have died in the floods in Pakistan. Cattle also died in large numbers. Also, various diseases including skin disease and malaria are spreading. Seasonal change is said to be one of the reasons for this.

Following this, people are forced to face the next level of crisis. 15 to 16% of Pakistan’s population is facing a food insecurity crisis, according to the country’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Vice President Farooq Toyrov.

He said that the country, which has been affected by the corona epidemic and the recent floods, has been forced to become the worst food crisis country in the history of South Asian countries.

As he spoke, 95 lakh acres of agricultural lands were submerged in floodwaters across the country. 45 lakh acres of crops were damaged. He said that the international allies and the government of Pakistan should work together and work together to face the crisis situation in which the country is affected by poverty.

Chris Gaye, Pakistan Director for the World Food Programme, said:
34.5 crore people from 82 countries are facing food insecurity. This figure was 28.2 crore at the beginning of 2022. Before Corona this number was 13.5 crore. Increasing agricultural productivity is a pressing need for Pakistan. Said thus.
