Speed cameras have been found destroyed in Sweden in recent months, the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports. The Swedish government suspects that Russia is using the stolen equipment for the war in Ukraine, the Russians are allegedly installing the cameras on drones that attack Ukraine.
According to the report, last Wednesday valuable equipment was stolen from a system of two speed cameras in an area north of Stockholm. More than 100 speed cameras have been vandalized and looted in various parts of Sweden since the end of August, the Swedish newspaper reports. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense previously released a video of a Russian drone that crashed, the video shows a Canon camera attached to the drone, the type of camera was similar to the cameras used in Swedish speed cameras. “The amateur construction is actually successful,” according to the newspaper Aftonbladet.
Russia will use drones with cameras to locate Ukrainian forces. It is not clear if the cameras are also part of Iranian drones that Russia has recently launched over Ukrainian cities. The broken speed cameras cost Sweden a lot of money. A speed camera costs about 250,000 Swedish kroner, more than 22,700 euros.
