United Kingdom: Boris Johnson will not run for the leadership of the Conservative Party

by time news

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not run for the leadership of the Conservative Party. He said that although he had the support of the MPs required to run, he concluded “it just wouldn’t be the right thing to do” because “you can’t govern effectively unless you have a united party in Parliament”. According to him, he received the backing of 102 members of parliament, as reported this evening (Sunday) by the BBC.

This means that Minister Rishi Sonak is expected to become the next Prime Minister of the UK and replace Liz Truss, who replaced Boris Johnson but stepped down this week after just 45 days in office.

Remember, Johnson has not officially announced whether he will run for the leadership of the Conservative Party this week in place of Liz Truss, but his associates claimed last night that he has obtained the support of at least 100 faction members, which will allow him to run in the snap election.

For this purpose, Johnson returned to London from a vacation in the Dominican Republic, and a Sky reporter who was on the plane said that some of the passengers shouted insults at the former prime minister.
