Coimbatore: The police suspect that several people are behind the blast that rocked the city. The police received some crucial CCTV footage related to the car explosion in Ukkaduth yesterday. The police have collected the CCTV footage from near the house of Jamisha Mubeen who died in the blast. On the day of the incident, four people took something wrapped from Jamisha Mubeen’s house.
Evidence from the footage suggests that an object similar to a gas cylinder is being transported. Meanwhile, the police have not confirmed this. According to the report, after the CCTV footage was found, one of the people in the footage was taken into custody. The national media also reported that he is being interrogated by the police.
The blast took place near the Ukkadam Kottai Eswaran Temple on Sunday morning. One of the two cylinders in the car exploded. The car split in two in the blast and was completely burnt.
Police are investigating whether there is any terrorist connection behind the incident. According to the police, Jamisha drove near the Mubeen temple with both the gas cylinders open. One of these exploded. After the incident, materials used to make bombs were also found in his house. Potassium nitrate, aluminum powder, sulfur etc. were found. Forensic experts found nails and pieces of marble in the blast-damaged car.
Jamisha Mubeen, an engineering graduate, is an I.S. In 2019, following allegations of a relationship, N.I.A. was questioned. But the police said that no case was registered against him earlier and no other action was taken.
The police are handling the explosion during the Diwali celebrations with utmost seriousness. Six teams of police have been formed to investigate the incident. In the wake of the blast, police security has been beefed up across the state.
