Samsung has announced an additional 200-megapixel sensor, which may fit into the Galaxy S23

After the ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL HP3, Samsung announced another photo sensor boasting a resolution of 200 megapixels. Samsung calls the third sensor in the series ISOCELL HPX. This time, at least according to the first reports, it may also reach Samsung’s own devices, including the imminent Galaxy S23 Ultra. Even earlier, it is likely that it will debut in one of Xiaomi’s phones, perhaps even in the Redmi Note 12, which the company is expected to announce later this month.

The ISOCELL HPX has 0.56 micrometer pixels, like that of the HP3 sensor. This means that it is a fairly compact unit that can be relatively easily integrated into devices compared to Samsung’s previous generation sensors. A technology called Advanced DTI enables an effective analysis of the information received from each pixel individually, thus benefiting from a higher level of sensitivity for the entire array. In addition, ISOCELL HPX supports Super QPD technology for extremely fast focusing on objects.

In challenging lighting conditions, the sensor is able to group together the input coming from 8 or even 16 pixels into a single pixel, to create a 50 megapixel or even 12.4 megapixel image of extremely high quality. The selection of the different modes will usually be done automatically, according to the level of illumination that the sensor will detect in the environment where you are trying to take a picture. In video recording, the sensor is capable of shooting in 8K resolution at a rate of up to 30 frames/second, and in 4K and Full HD resolution in double HDR mode.

As part of the announcement of the sensor, Samsung did not give any official information about devices expected to use it.
