Krishnagiri: Thousands of acres of land will be irrigated through the big lake in Pannanthar Panj, Kaveripatnam Union. But the nearby Pannantur Chinna Lake dried up 10 years ago without any water supply. Subsequently, the canals of the dry land adjacent to the Pannantur Chinnaeri were encroached upon and the waterways disappeared.
In this case, on March 1, 2020, a 25 HP electric motor with solar panels was installed from Periya Lake to Chinna Lake and water was irrigated through a pipeline. As a result, Chinna Lake is full, Pannantur, Papparapatti, Vadamangalam, Damodarhalli, Venkapuliankottai, Pallidadhankottai, Appukottai, 500 acres of land are getting irrigation facilities, but due to encroachments on the canal leading to Chinna Lake’s surplus water, water has stagnated in the area for the past two years. The water channel is completely occupied. So that excess water does not flow, pour

Water has stagnated in 30 acres of land in the area without any way to go. As a result, 2,000 coconut trees and residences on the Pannantur-Bandarahalli road are surrounded by water. During the rainy season, water seeps into the houses and there is an increased risk of poisonous animals, mosquitoes and disease.

In this regard, petitions were made to all, including Tahsildar, BTO, Collector, Chief Minister’s Division, Principal Secretary, but no solution was reached. We have submitted a petition in the current Gram Sabha meeting. The concerned authorities intervened and re-constructed the water channels in the swampy area and connected the excess water to the Pannantur Periya lake drain. Thus, they said.
