by time news

The unemployment rate in France (excluding Mayotte) remained stable in the third quarter of 2022 with 3.164 million category A job seekers, according to figures published by the Statistics Department of the Ministry of Labor (Dares) on Tuesday.

This represents 1,700 fewer unemployed people compared to the second quarter. Over one year, the drop in category A is 10.9%, or 388,800 fewer people.

Including reduced activity (categories B and C of Pôle Emploi), the number of job seekers was also stable in the third quarter (-7.1% over one year) at 5.436 million (i.e. 1,000 fewer people) . This plateau comes after an already weak decline of 0.8% in the second quarter, far from the sharp declines of 5% recorded in the first quarter of 2022 and the last quarter of 2021.

A decline of more than 7% over one year

In mainland France, the number of job seekers in category A (ie without any activity) remained stable over the last quarter and fell by 11.2% over one year. In total, the number of job seekers in categories A, B, C was also stable over this quarter (+900) and fell by 7.3% over one year.

In category A, for metropolitan France alone, the number of job seekers rose by 1.5% in the third quarter for those under 25 (-16.1% over one year). It remained stable for 25-49 year olds (-11.1% over one year) and fell by 0.7% for those aged 50 and over (-9% over one year).

On the long-term unemployment front, the number of jobseekers registered for a year or more fell by 2.2% in the third quarter (-14.4% over one year) to 2.369 million (categories A, B and C ). The share of job seekers registered for a year or more reached 46.3% (-3.8 points over one year).

Good news, entries to the Pôle emploi in categories A, B and C continued to decrease slightly over the quarter (-0.8%), with a sharp drop in entries for economic redundancy (-14.5%). On the other hand, exits from the Pôle emploi fell sharply (-5.5%).
