Insubordinate France will file a new motion of censure in response to 49.3 triggered by Borne

The match between the government and the opposition continues. After the triggering of a third 49.3 on the Social Security budget by Élisabeth Borne on Wednesday evening, France insoumise (LFI) is preparing to table a motion of censure, announced Thursday the chairman of the Finance Committee of the Assembly Eric Coquerel.

“Yes, we will do it, at least on the Insoumis side, because we must not trivialize 49.3”, explained Éric Coquerel, questioned about the filing of a new motion of censure on the set of France 2. He criticized “something quite unique in democracies”: a 49.3, “it means that the National Assembly does not vote on the budget”.

Late Wednesday, Elisabeth Borne triggered this article of the Constitution allowing the adoption of a text without a vote except for a motion of censure on the entire text of the social security budget. This is the third time in less than a week that she has held her government accountable.

A rapprochement with LR?

“We take all those who want to join this motion of censure”, also slipped Éric Coquerel. The participation of the RN in the vote of the first motion of censure tabled by the Nupes had created unease in the ranks of the left and provoked criticism from the right and the majority, who denounced a collusion between the RN and the Nupes.

The deputy of Seine-Saint-Denis pointed out that the motion of the RN had collected only 90 votes, against the 239 collected by that of Nupes. “Who is capable of bringing down the government is the Nupes, it’s not Mrs. Le Pen”, he concluded. The Nupes had refused to vote for the motion of the RN.

Éric Coquerel said he was ready, however, to vote on a motion tabled by the LR deputies. “They are part of the Republican arc and it is not the same thing to vote for a group which is very much in the minority than for a far-right group. Within Nupes, ecologists have already announced that they will not table a new motion of censure.
