Against the backdrop of the insemination failure at Asuta Hospital in Rishon Lezion, the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Lau, states today that “the woman giving birth is the mother of the baby according to Halacha.”
The rabbis of the Poa Institute joined this halachic ruling because in the current situation where the identity of the biological parents is unknown, one should not search for them and the mother should be allowed to raise the baby she gave birth to in peace.
As you remember, yesterday we reported here on news 0404 about a catheterization the baby underwent while still in the womb, this following a rare and dangerous heart defect that was discovered in the baby. The entire nation of Israel is praying for the health of the tender baby.
