Mexico City: Mexico’s Supreme Court declared in 2015 that state laws prohibiting same-sex marriage are unconstitutional.
Subsequently, each state recognized same-sex marriage as legal. In this case, same-sex marriage was legalized in Guerrero state the day before yesterday.
Mexico’s last state, Tamalibus, voted yesterday to legalize same-sex marriage. 23 votes were recorded in favor of this bill and 12 votes against. After that same-sex marriage got legal recognition here as well. With this, same-sex marriage is now legal throughout Mexico.
Mexico’s Supreme Court Chief Justice Arturo Zaldivar tweeted, “The whole country is shining like a huge rainbow. It is the right of all people to live with dignity. “Love is love,” he said.
