The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy is one of the most beautiful architectural wonders in the world. Tourists fly from different parts of the world to visit this leaning tower. Now none other than South Indian superstar Trisha Krishnan has come to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The actress is vacationing in Italy as her latest Mani Ratnam film Ponniyin Selvan hits the theatres.

Trisha posted a picture of herself in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa on Instagram.

Trisha captioned the picture, “A perfect example of how a human error can turn into a miracle”. Many people including celebrities have commented below.

Pisa, a beautiful city located on the Arno River, is an hour’s train ride from Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station. Pisa-Centrale is the main train station in Pisa. After getting off the train, you can walk for about 20 minutes to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The tower is one of three structures in Pisa Cathedral Square, which includes the cathedral and Pisa Baptistry. The Leaning Tower is situated behind the Cathedral. The Tower of Pisa was built as the bell tower or campanile of Pisa Cathedral.

There are 294 steps to climb to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The stairs are very wide and easy to climb. Tourists are charged a fee to climb up.

In the province of Pisa, work on the 57-meter-tall and 14,500-metric-ton tower began in 1173. Due to the unstable soil, the building was leaning when the construction started. The construction of the tower took place in three phases over a period of 199 years. The inclination worsened with the completion of construction in the 14th century. By 1990, the slope had reached 5.5 degrees. Later, works carried out between 1993 and 2001 reduced the slope to 3.97 degrees.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa attracted world attention not only in terms of its tilt. Since 1280 there have been at least four major earthquakes in the region, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa has survived them all without a scratch. Researchers later discovered that what saved the Leaning Tower of Pisa was a feature called ‘dynamic soil-structure interaction’ caused by the presence of the same soft soil that caused the building to tilt.
