An unusual incident happened today (Friday) during an El Al flight to Bangkok, after a passenger smoked in the toilet compartment and caused a fire. The fire started after the passenger threw the cigarette butt into the trash can inside the cabin, causing it to ignite. The fire was extinguished, and after assessing the situation, it was decided that the flight would continue as usual.
Mal Al said in response: “A passenger on a flight to Bangkok was caught smoking in the plane’s bathroom, after which there was a fear of a fire forming in the cabin. The air service team and the captains treated immediately and with caution by using the dedicated fire extinguishers. The flight continued as normal and landed safely at the Bangkok airport. The passenger has been warned and the issue is being further examined by the legal department.’
It was also stated in the company’s statement that “no complaint was filed with the Thai police, because it could have resulted in the passenger’s prolonged detention. El Al will probably take legal action against him in Israel, and file a claim against him for compensation for the damages.”
