A report has been issued on behalf of DMK and allied parties condemning Governor RN Ravi. It said, “If you are speaking against the Constitution, you can leave your post and give your opinion. The governor should at least stop speaking Sanatana ideas while being in charge. Ever since RN Ravi took charge as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, he has made it a habit to make some controversial comments every day.
I don’t know whether the reason for that is the intention to create unnecessary controversies and confusion in Tamil Nadu, or the desire to always have attention towards oneself. His comments about Sanatana, Arya, Dravidian, Scheduled Tribes, Thirukkural are absurd and dangerous.
It is not good for him to let the conservative chauvinists roam the country from the constitutionally recognized position of governor; His position is not beautiful! He does not seem to accept the explanations given by many against the absurd comments being made. He does not seem to have changed himself. As usual, he continues his speeches.
More than 120 countries in the world are secular. All secular countries have religions; There is also the government. But the two are unrelated. Without knowing this, the governor says that ‘any country can only depend on a certain religion’, the world is ignorant.
All religions are equal (14), no discrimination in religion (15), equal rights for all (16), right to follow religion of choice (25), right to propagate their religion (26), no need to pay tax to promote religion (27), No religious education in government institutions (28), minorities have right to run educational institutions (30), duty of every citizen to spread inter-religious harmony and brotherhood (51A[e]), there should be no exemption from electoral roll on religious grounds (325) – all these are contained in the Constitution. The Governor speaks against all these.
The nine-judge Constitution Bench which ruled in the case of SR Bomm v. Union of India held that the principle of secularism is one of the fundamental features of our Constitution. The judges said that there should be no religious bias in government activities and that the state government can be dissolved if it acts on religious grounds. In that sense, the Governor is speaking contrary to the Supreme Court verdict.
We publicly accuse the governor of speaking with all this knowingly and deliberately with the intention of causing confusion; We condemn. It is because the governor is in charge that he is speaking so much importance has to be given to this. BJP is expecting something bigger than this. Let RN Ravi make such comments to please the leadership. Instead, we ask you to be responsible and stop talking.”
