Five members of the group who sold liquor at the school’s security office at Kothamangalam Nellikuzhi were arrested. The head of the drug gang and the security personnel escaped after bypassing the excise team and recovered the bags of ganja from here.
The school security room in Nellikuzhi saw scenes that one would never want to see when there are big campaign activities centered on schools against drug addiction. Five intoxicated youths came inside the room which was in a mess. Shafiq, Ashant, Ashiq, Munir, natives of Vadatupara and Harikrishnan, native of Kuthukuzhi, were taken into custody by the Excise team. Saju Biju, the security personnel who did not anticipate the inspection, and Yasin, the leader of the drug gang, escaped. Rahul, a native of Thrikariyur, is also wanted by Excise in connection with the case. Cannabis was recovered from Yasin’s bike which was parked in the school premises.
Yasin used to deliver cannabis here regularly. Intoxicants were arranged inside the room where the security staff lived. They are also checking whether they sold drugs to school children. At the same time, the officials explained that they did not know that such kind of drug sale was taking place in the school. The CCTV system of the school was also faulty.
Kothamangalam Excise Circle Inspector Hirosh conducted the inspection following a tip-off received by Preventive Officer KA Nias of Kothamangalam Excise Circle Office.
