During the Halloween celebration in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, there was a huge tragedy. 151 people died due to the disaster. Was this disaster called for? The first event after restrictions were lifted, Seoul aimed to make it outdoors. But what happened was the other way around. And the general opinion is that this accident was called for. More than one lakh people were crammed into the road, which was only four meters wide. Even ambulances could not reach the accident site because of the congestion on this narrow road.

Another thing is that when there was an accident in rush hour in one part, dancing and celebrations continued in the other part without knowing it. This also made it impossible for ambulances to reach. The accident happened at 10.30 pm local time. Many people were trampled and suffocated to death under the crowd. More than 150 lives were lost in the stampede in the event where more than 1 lakh people participated. The death toll could rise further. According to experts in the health sector, the cramming of so many people in the 4-meter-wide alley has caused suffocation and heart attacks.
The accident was caused by people crowding the narrow road leading to Itaewon, the main festival site. People thronged the narrow road from the nearby hotel and Ithan subway station. It is believed that the crowd created a stampede after word spread that someone famous was staying at a nearby hotel. There was a crash and panic as those on top of the ramp began to fall down.
Itan is a city famous for its nightlife. After the Korean War that lasted from 1950 to 1953, the city became famous as a bar and nightclub for the American soldiers stationed in the area. This is South Korea’s worst disaster since a boat capsized in 2014, killing 300 people.
