Death toll rises to 91 in Morbi suspension bridge collapse in Gujarat Many people were injured. More than a hundred and fifty fell into the river. Most of the dead were children and women. It is reported that around 400 people were on the bridge and nearby when the accident happened. It is also reported that many people are still stuck in the river. In this situation, it is feared that the death toll may rise further. The historic bridge, which was repaired five days ago, collapsed. After the repairs, the bridge was opened to the public on October 26, which is considered as New Year by Gujaratis.

After the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi phoned Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to inquire about the details. He ordered an immediate rescue operation. The state government also announced a financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the family members of the deceased. 50,000 each will be given to the family members of the injured. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the funding through Twitter. The Chief Minister reached Morbi, canceling all official programs on Sunday.
