Lula da Silva is the new president of Brazil; Bolsonaro is out

by time news

Rio de Janeiro: Lula da Silva won the leftist presidential election in Brazil. He won by defeating the current president, Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro received 49.17 percent of the vote, while Lula won a majority of 50.8 percent.

It is a strong comeback for Lula, who was previously the country’s president. Lula was jailed in 2018 following corruption charges. Then in 2019, Bolsonaro came to power. It is alleged that Bolsonaro’s failures during the Corona epidemic caused the death toll to rise in Brazil. With this the support for the leader was decreasing.

Lula has a huge responsibility to strengthen the economy in Brazil. Every decision of the new president will be closely watched due to the sharp rise in prices.
