Publication was allowed: Jewish youths are being interrogated by the Shin Bet under severe rights violations

by time news

Two Jewish youths have been interrogated in recent days by the Shin Bet in a serious violation of rights, this was allowed to be published today (Tuesday) after the publication order issued by the police and the Shin Bet in the matter expired. The young men are being investigated on the suspicion that about two weeks ago they helped the residents of the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood in Jerusalem to defend their homes from an Arab mob that rioted there. They were questioned on suspicion of assault and other crimes.

The young men were arrested about a week ago, until yesterday (Monday) they were forbidden by an unusual order to meet with a lawyer, yesterday the detainees met their lawyers from the Honnu organization – Adi Kider, Nati Rom and Avihai Hajabi. In their meeting with the lawyers it was learned that the detainees had suffered a serious rights violation, including harassment by female investigators, sleep deprivation, interrogation on Shabbat, preventing prayers, etc. At the hearing, the High Court rejected the police’s request to extend their detention by 8 days, and extended their detention until Thursday, while stating that one of the detainees will be released already on Thursday under restrictive conditions .

Adv. Avihai Hagavi: “The conduct of the General Security Service deserves all condemnation. These things gain new validity in light of the Supreme Court’s decision according to which a suspect of Arab origin was questioned in a serious case that took place a few minutes before the incident without any prohibition against meeting without any significant difference. In any case, my client is innocent, therefore I am sure he will be released In the coming days”.

Adv. Nati Rom: “The Shin Bet and the police have lost it. The rights of the interrogated were trampled by a draconian order preventing a meeting, and an aggressive investigation while preventing a second, harassment, interrogations on Shabbat and more. The police tried to mislead the court, while hiding critical details from the incident, including the serious injury, minutes before the incident, of a 17-year-old boy at the hands of an Arab mob. Unfortunately, the security forces are investing their efforts against the attacked – the Jewish residents, and not against the enemy. I call on the security forces to wake up and act against the enemy and stop the wave of terrorism.”

Adv. Adi Kidar: “The court rejected the puzzling police request for a publication ban, in which the police do not want to reveal their conduct and the Shin Bet’s conduct with the detainees. This is a case that should not have been brought to the Shin Bet’s attention at all and not to the prevention of meeting. During the period of preventing the meeting, the suspects were interrogated for long hours on Shabbat, they were deprived of hours of sleep, they were not provided with proper food, one of the detainees even had his religious feelings hurt when an investigator touched him in a way Targeted several times, and all these in vain, one of the detainees will be released soon and the other has not yet formed the suspicion against him.

At the end of the day, the Supreme Court itself accepted the defense’s argument that the discrimination here is problematic. A few minutes before the incident, there was another incident in which a young Jewish boy was brutally attacked and the suspect in his case was not investigated by the Shin Bet, nor arrested by the police, nor in the prevention of an encounter. : Tal Yushobiev, whose house the Shin Bet interrogators tried to protect from the terrorists)
