The first trading day of the month, Tuesday, was also bullish in the stock market. As a result, the BSE Sensex surged 375 points to cross 61,000 points. The Nifty, comprising the top 50 stocks of the National Stock Exchange, rose 133.20 points (0.74 per cent) to close at 18,145.40.
Global market cues were positive. Especially the Asian and European markets were booming. The impact was felt early on in the domestic market. As a result, the market rose for the fourth straight day, stockbrokers said.
Up 375 points: Sensex rose 543.14 points to end at 61,289.73, opening at 61,065.58 in the morning. The Sensex, which later fell to 60,868.69, ended up 374.76 points (0.62 per cent) at 61,212.35.
NTPC Abaram: Axis Bank led the decliner list on the Sensex, which comprises 30 top-tier stocks, down 3.75 percent. Also, Maruti, Reliance and Tata Steel also made it to the cheapest list. 26 other stocks also gained.
In this, public sector power company NTPC led the list with a rise of 5 percent and Power Grid 3.75 percent. Next to these, Dr. Reddy, Infosys, TCS etc. rose by 2 to 2.40 percent. Twin companies HDFC, Wipro also came on the expensive list.
In this situation, the market capitalization value of Mumbai Stock Exchange increased by Rs 2.22 lakh crore and stood at Rs 2 82.14 lakh crore at the close of trading. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought stocks to the tune of Rs 4,178.61 crore on Monday, market data showed.
