Pupils from the Jakob-Emele Realschule in Bad Schussenried donated self-sewn heart pillows to the Parksanatorium Aulendorf, an oncological rehabilitation clinic of the Waldburg-Zeil Kliniken. The colorful pillows are designed to help breast cancer patients relieve pain after surgery. Nicole Bleier, a teacher from the Jakob-Emele Realschule, became aware of the campaign through a friend of hers from the park sanatorium. The Waldburg-Zeil clinics sponsor the filling material for the project and take care of the distribution of the heart pillow patterns on behalf of the “Heart Pillow Germany” initiative.
The heart pillow is carried under the arm of breast cancer patients. It relieves pain and tension that most sufferers experience after surgery. The Danish nurse Nancy Friis-Jensen brought the heart pillow to Germany in 2006. The pillows are sewn in such a way that the extended “wings” can be perfectly placed under the armpit. Thus, pain can be relieved. The pain caused by any surgical intervention or the resulting tension is reduced by the ergonomic cut of the pillow. Of course, the colorfully designed cushions should also bring joy when looking at them.
As a specialist clinic for oncological rehabilitation, the Parksanatorium Aulendorf specializes in the therapy and rehabilitation of malignant tumor diseases and malignant systemic diseases and has 199 inpatient treatment places and four outpatient treatment places. The main treatment areas of the facility include, in particular, tumors in the stomach and intestines, urological tumors, breast carcinomas, gynecological carcinomas, malignant systemic diseases, tumors in the head and neck area and thyroid carcinomas.
