Samsung is working on thinner and more durable foldables. Anticipating competition from Apple in 2024

by time news

Samsung recently convened the hardware and component suppliers it works with for a conversation about the company’s strategy, and details leaked from this meeting indicate that the main emphasis for the Korean manufacturer continues to be in the foldable device category, which for them is a great success.

Samsung claims that in the Korean market, the number of young users who are abandoning iPhones in favor of a foldable model manufactured by it is up to four times greater than in the past. Samsung’s forecast is that by 2025 this category will almost double. However, Samsung predicts that in 2024 Apple will launch its own foldable devices. First these will be laptops and tablets and not smart phones.

As for Samsung’s future foldable models, the company lists a number of areas in which it currently invests the main parts of its research and development efforts and therefore expects similar support from component suppliers as well. First, Samsung wants to find a way to integrate its electronic pen, S Pen, inside the case of the folding devices in the Galaxy Z Fold series. In fact, Samsung reveals that such a program was canceled at the last minute for the current model, the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

More on the focus: thinner and more durable folding devices, with more advanced photo arrays than before. The company is also looking for stronger vibration motors, and materials that will enable the production of lightweight foldable devices. Finally, Samsung clarifies that it expects business partners to also invest in the development of applications that match the unique configuration of the foldable screen. All this, in an effort to take advantage of Samsung’s advantage in the field, while most of the competitors launched individual foldable devices, if at all.
