Calls from hospital staff paid off. Faced with a growing bronchiolitis epidemic in babies and hospital services still under strain, the Minister of Health François Braun announced the release of around 400 million euros in aid for hospitals, instead of the 150 million euros announced in October .

This budget will make it possible to finance the doubling of the remuneration of night hours for all hospital staff, medical and non-medical, until March 31, 2023. The Minister of Health thus wants to “recognize the commitment of professionals and the drudgery of night work,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Expanded Critical Care Bounty

He also promised the extension of the critical care premium, in particular for childcare workers in pediatric services in hospitals who were not affected until now. This bonus had been put in place during the Covid crisis for personnel operating in critical care, who were particularly overwhelmed.

The measure is part of the demands made by the heads of the pediatric intensive care units who have raised their voices. On October 22, more than 7,000 pediatric caregivers sent an open letter to Emmanuel Macron to alert him to the saturation of hospital services linked to the bronchiolitis epidemic but also to the lack of resources and personnel. Some hospitals have even had to postpone operations on young children for lack of caregivers.

Extended “Flash Mission”

The measures established last summer with the “flash mission” will also be extended, such as aid for city medicine and medical regulation aimed at relieving congestion in hospitals during the summer. The regional intervention funds of the Regional Health Agencies will also be mobilized to target specific needs in certain territories.

These measures will be discussed again within the framework of the work of the National Council for Refoundation launched at the beginning of October by the government. The National Pediatrics Conference scheduled for spring 2023 should allow the development of the sector’s roadmap for the years to come, according to the Minister.
