Shocking and fascinating: the story of the deadliest killer in US history
“The Good Sister”, the new movie of the streaming giant Netflix manages to surpass the rest in the genre and in general. The excellent performance of Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, the clever direction, and the incredible story create a great and one-time cinematic viewing experience
There is no doubt that in recent years the docu and crime genres have been gaining momentum, and this can be seen among all the streaming giants and Netflix in particular. And here, a new movie has been released, and it deals with the story of one of the deadliest killers the United States has ever known. But the main character in the film is the one who was the main factor in exposing him and bringing him to justice, which is a refreshing and brave choice in itself.
That protagonist, Amy, worked as a nurse, just like the murderer in question, at a local hospital in New Jersey, which raises quite a few complex questions about the conduct of the American health care system. Amy actually went to work at the hospital shortly before the events of the film take place. She is a single mother, and she has a rare heart muscle disease.
One day, she is joined by a new brother named Charlie, who turns out to have been through quite a few hospitals. Charlie is in a complex divorce proceeding, but his character remains quite limited since the heroine of the film is Amy, and thus her point of view is dominant. Still, you can’t help but notice that there’s something hidden beneath Charlie’s likability.
And then it happens, dozens of deaths of patients in the hospital, who should not have died at all. Then two detectives, Danny and Tim, enter the picture, and from there everything gets more complicated. How complicated is it? The two manage to reveal that Charlie murdered 29 people, patients who were admitted to the hospital.
“The Good Sister” undoubtedly manages not only to provide a successful, tense and fascinating viewing experience, but also to be a different creation in the local landscape, bolder and more refreshing, thus its novelty. Definitely worth watching if you’re a fan of the genre, and in fact, even if you’re not.
