The Tata Group-owned plant in Tamil Nadu’s industrial city of Hosur will employ 45,000 women workers within 18 to 24 months, according to management sources.
Hosur Factory:
The Hosur factory, which manufactures iPhone housings/assembling phone cases and spare parts, currently employs around 10,000 workers. Most of them are women. The Hosur plant employed about 5,000 women in September. This includes people from the tribal communities of the northern states.
The total salary for women in the Hosur factory is 16,000 rupees ($194) a month. This is nearly 40% higher than the average for Indian industrial workers. Workers are provided free food and accommodation within the campus. They also said that Tata plans to provide advanced training and education to the employees.

Foxconn Technology Group, Apple’s main manufacturing partner, fears a lack of festive sales as its main Chinese plant is still not fully recovered from the Covid-19 outbreak.
This has increased the production of iPhone parts in India beyond China. This is further boosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fiscal stimulus package, which has helped boost iPhone exports from the South Asian country.
Separately, Tata Group is in talks with Wistron to set up an electronics manufacturing joint venture that wants to assemble iPhones in India. It plans to use this to increase production in their Tamil Nadu factory.
