It is the most important French literary prize. It is certainly not highly endowed, but it is extremely prestigious.
The book is about her husband’s motorcycle accident over 20 years ago. Just a few years after the accident, the 62-year-old wrote a work about her personal tragedy, which was published in Germany in 2003 under the title “Life in Two”.
Giraud, who lives near Lyon in south-east France, studied English and German. Many of her books have also been published in German, including “In the Shadow of the Waves” and “The Strange Year”. The prestigious award is only endowed with a symbolic 10 euros, but above all it boosts the sales figures. It has been awarded since 1903. (dpa)
