From “Hive” to Benion: listen to the Hebrew songs chosen by Haim Oliel

by time news

The musician Haim Oliel was born in Sderot in 1956 and is considered a mentor to musicians from the south, among them: Kobi Oz and the Church of the Mind band. During his musical career, Oliel founded the band Shfatim and co-wrote many hits, both in the band and as a soloist.

Oliel began his musical journey at the age of 15, when he founded the band ‘Lil Shamshomot’. After his military service, he founded the rock band ‘The Twenty-First Century’, which later formed the basis of the ‘Lip Band’, where Oliel was a singer and co-writer of the songs. Together with the band, he released over the years about five albums and a number of hits, such as: ‘Ahlan and Sahlan’, ‘Habibi Dali’ and ‘Ish and Violin’.

In 2000, Oliel released his debut album – ‘Sandok Ejab’, which included the hits ‘Signs of the Storm’ and ‘You’re Going Alone Now’, with Kobe Oz taking part in his artistic management. Since then, Oliel has released two more albums, which included, among other things, the favorite songs ‘Let him go’, ‘Aretz Avoda’ and innovations to ‘Ish and Violin’ and ‘Children is Joy’.

In 2003 he recorded Natan Alterman’s song ‘I’ll Come’, for the theme song for the movie ‘The Stars of Shlomi’. The song was composed and musically produced by Yonatan Bar Giora. Another collaboration that took place between the two was when they worked together on another song for Alterman ‘The Run of the Ola Danino’, which was performed in a special performance. Two years ago, in November 2020, the acclaimed singer participated in the opening night of the ‘Ashdodshira’ festival, where he performed the songs on stage for the first time.

Oliel, who was responsible for proposing the word ‘tshululim’ to the Hebrew Language Academy, established over the years a Moroccan singer and cultural club under this name in the city of Sderot.

As part of the ‘Artists Editing Shabbat Hebrew’ project on 103FM, Oliel chose some of his favorite Israeli artists. Among them: Tipax, Gabi Shoshan, Nissim Sarosi, Eli Luzon, the Church of the Mind, Hive and many other good ones. Pleasant listening!
