The Pope arrived in Bahrain on Thursday evening for a four-day visit. The Royal Guard Band played the National Anthem of the two countries at the reception in the courtyard of Sakhir Palace.

Welcoming the Pope to Bahrain, a land of ancient civilization, tolerance, coexistence and peace, the King of Bahrain described the visit as historic. In his reply speech, the Pope praised the tolerance and coexistence of Bahrain and said that Bahrain is a noble example of coexistence where citizens from different countries live together in love and brotherhood. The world we live in has become a small village. We should give all support to co-existence there. The dawn of peace is imperative in today’s world. He said that we can end discrimination on the basis of gender, race, religion and worship. The Pope called for an end to wars and conflicts.

On Friday morning, the Pope attended the closing session of the Bahrain Dialogue Forum at Al Fida Square in Sakhir Palace. Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad Al Tayyib also participated. About 200 different religious leaders from different parts of the world participated in the event, which was held on the theme of East and West for Human Coexistence. During the ceremony, the Pope called for the great religions of the world to work together for peace. Never use religion to justify violence. He said that unity among people of different faiths can help heal conflicts and promote a more just and sustainable world.

This is the Pope’s second visit to the Gulf after his visit to the UAE in 2019.
