Microsoft Pledges to Keep Releasing Call of Duty for PlayStation Indefinitely

Xbox General Manager Phil Spencer makes it clear: Microsoft has no intention of stopping the release of Call of Duty games for PlayStation devices.

As reported by Eurogamer, Spencer made the pledge during a new interview on Same Brain’s YouTube channel, which you can watch below.

When asked about his opinion of players’ dissatisfaction with the news that the first-person shooter series will not be released on PlayStation devices in the future, Spencer decided to clarify the situation directly by saying, “As long as there are PlayStations being made, our technology is to continue to release Call of Duty games on PlayStation .”

The Xbox manager went on to compare the situation to what happened with Minecraft, saying, “We’ve expanded the places where players can play Minecraft, we haven’t reduced them. It was good, and the Minecraft community has satisfied – in my opinion – and we would like to do the same for the future of Call of Duty through the years.”

There is no doubt that a statement like this commits Microsoft to fulfill that covenant, which means that all future Call of Duty releases will be released on PlayStation. If not, it will be embarrassing for Microsoft, which will cause a lot of negative reviews and anger from players.

However, there are no commitments to stop Microsoft from releasing its new games on PlayStation at the same time as Xbox, and Call of Duty will continue to be a $70 game on PlayStation while being offered to the Xbox community as part of a monthly Game Pass subscription.

It is reported that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is currently under intense investigation by legal authorities in several countries around the world. Spencer expects the deal to be closed by next June, but a deep investigation in the UK could delay that date, depending on its final outcome.
