Reports have been circulating since last week that new owner Elon Musk’s first move could be to cut Twitter’s workforce in half. All those reports proved to be true yesterday. A number of layoffs were sent much faster than expected.
The email, which was sent around 4am, said that access to Twitter’s infrastructure, Slack and official email had been blocked. Elon Musk’s action of suddenly firing the employees who were working on Twitter all over the world without any prior notice was heavily criticized. Subsequently, Elon Musk has explained why such a step was taken.
“The company is losing $4 million dollars every day, so they have no choice but to make layoffs. They have been given severance pay for three months. This is 50% more than what is required by law,” his side tweeted. As far as India is concerned, it has been reported that 250 to 300 people were working in Twitter management and almost all of them have been fired.
