AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX to rival GeForce RTX 4080
PC World has another great interview on the topic of the AMD RDNA3 architecture.
One of the most common questions asked after the end of the RDNA3 event was why AMD didn’t compare the RX 7900 series with GeForce RTX 40 GPUs. The answer was provided by AMD’s Frank Azor (Architect, Head of Game Solutions and Marketing). He confirmed that the RX 7900 series was rivaling the RTX 4080 series, and since NVIDIA simply didn’t release this card, AMD didn’t have any data to put into the official graphics.
[Radeon RX 7900 XTX] It was designed to run against the 4080 and we don’t have benchmark numbers on the 4080. This is the main reason I haven’t seen any comparisons from NVIDIA. […] The $999 card is no match for the 4090, and it costs 60% more, It’s a competitor to 4080.

PCWorld was also interested in learning more about FSR3, AMD’s next-generation scaling technology. It was announced during the presentation of RDNA3. AMD has confirmed that this technology will be released in 2023, but nothing specific has been said about timing or GPU support. So another pressing question from the community was whether FSR3 would be supported by architectures other than RDNA3. Frank Azure confirmed that AMD wants to support FSR3 with more than RDNA3:
[AMD FSR3] Not a quick reaction or something [to DLSS3]It’s something we’ve been working on quite a while. Why does it take a little longer for it to appear, as you probably hoped? The main thing to remember about FSR is the philosophy of FSR and so far FSR has not only worked on RDNA2 or RDNA1 but on other generations of AMD graphics cards. It also works on competitive graphics cards. It’s a lot harder than if we were running it on RDNA3. […] We really want to work on more than RDNA3.

Azor continues to say that supporting the architecture is easy (referring to DLSS3 on the RTX 40). But AMD has promised FSR technology to support many architectures, and that takes time. The company cannot yet confirm whether it will be able to deliver on its promise to support more architectures with FSR 3 at 100%, but it is “trying to do so”.
