Apple launches iPhone self-service repair service

by time news

Soon iPhone owners will be able to repair their smartphones by themselves with Apple’s ‘blessing’: the Cupertino company has announced the launch of the Self Service Repair service that will allow customers – provided they have some experience and a certain expertise ‘technique’ – to fix your devices yourself using original Apple parts and tools.

The service will initially be available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, but will soon be expanded to Mac computers with M1 chips. In the initial phase, the program will focus on the most commonly serviced modules, such as the iPhone display, battery and camera. By the end of 2022, however, the possibility could be extended to further repairs.

Self Service Repair – which makes tools and manuals available to individuals so far only available to Apple-authorized suppliers – will be available early next year in the United States and will expand to other countries in 2022. The process includes examination of the Device Repair Manual, then ordering genuine Apple parts and tools through the Repair Online Store – after repair, customers who return used components in a recyclable condition will receive a credit towards their purchase.
