CHANDIGARH: Just days after Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter, announced that users would be charged a monthly fee to get Blue Tick, which is issued to authenticated accounts, fraudsters have overtaken them.
They staged the fraud by sending information that all you need to do is pay $2 immediately to get a permanent blue tick.
On mobile, it is said that if you pay $2 immediately, you can get a permanent blue tick on your Twitter account, and if you miss this opportunity, you will have to pay a monthly fee of $8 (Rs. 662).
Once the link is clicked, all the user’s details will go to the fraudsters. Then, money is siphoned off from the user’s account.
So far no First Information Report has been registered in this regard. But a warning has been sent to the public after some people are said to have received such fraudulent information.
In other words, following the complaints received by the Cyber Crime Unit regarding the sending of text messages, the Cyber Crime Unit Police are warning the public.
Monthly fee to get blue tick
Its new owner, Elon Musk, had announced that Twitter users would have to pay a monthly fee of $8 (Rs. 662) to get a blue tick indicating their authorized account.
Despite the criticism, Elon Musk posted a new Twitter post on Saturday to show that he hasn’t changed his stance.
In it, he posted, “You can scold me every day, but the fee is Rs. 662”.
Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world, announced this new fee after acquiring Twitter on October 27 for $44 billion. Social media users have been protesting against this.
Elon Musk posted last week that ‘Power to the people, $8 a month for Blue service’.
He mentioned that through this ‘Blue Tick’ users will be prioritized in replying, searching and mentioning and it will help in eradicating fake information.
Also, Elon Musk had said that this fee would also help people who post information on Twitter to generate revenue.
The company launched the ‘Blue Tick’ service in 2009 after Twitter came under fire for not taking steps to prevent fake accounts. The service was provided free of cost to the accounts of government approved persons and celebrities. Now Elon Musk has imposed a fee to increase Twitter’s revenue.
Social media users have been posting comments against this. It is also mentioned that it is difficult to identify the reliable ones.
Responding to these criticisms, Elon Musk said, ‘Twitter speaks to everyone’s inner self. Everyone keep complaining. But the fee for this is only 8 dollars.’
