Polluting industries: Macron gets his hands dirty

by time news

A five billion euro carrot to encourage us to go faster. In front of the bosses of the fifty most polluting industrial sites, cement manufacturers, steelmakers, glassmakers, or even fuel, fertilizer and sugar producers who alone represent 10% of France’s CO2 emissions, Emmanuel Macron , who had just returned from COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, promised to double public aid for these manufacturers, to 10 billion euros in all. But it’s give and take. To take advantage of this, they must double their efforts. Clearly, the 43 million tons of CO2 that they emit each year must increase within ten years to 20 million tons per year. That is a decrease of 5%, the equivalent of issuing three million French people.
